AFFECTS OF TESTOSTERONE ON MEN AND WOMEN

Affects of testosterone on men and women

The term ‘testosterone’ is mostly associated with men.

The reason is the significant functions it performs in their bodies.

Testosterone is a male sex hormone that plays a vital role in the growth, reproduction, and maintenance of a healthy body. Also, from regulating your mood to building strength and producing red blood cells, testosterone does it all for men.

Did you know that this chemical is also present in women?

Yes, you read it right.

In women, it is responsible for maintaining sexual drive, vaginal health, breast health, and menstruation.

Notably, a female body converts testosterone hormone and other androgens into female sex hormones.

The level of testosterone is more in males than females.

In men, it helps in the development of secondary sex characteristics like facial hair, deep voice, etc.

The production of this hormone is reduced with time in both men and women.

Still, it plays a significant role in the libido of both sexes.

In women, the normal testosterone level ranges from 15 to 70 ng/dL of blood.

In the case of a lower level of testosterone, a woman may experience low sex drive, osteoporosis, fertility issues, vaginal dryness, and changes in breast tissue.

However, when the level is higher than normal, she may face acne, obesity, lack of menstruation, excessive facial hair growth, blood sugar problems, etc.

In men, the normal testosterone level ranges from about 270 to 1070 ng/dL of blood.

If your testosterone level is low, you are suffering from hypogonadism and symptoms like reduced sex drive, low sperm count, enlarged breast tissue, and erectile dysfunction may be experienced by you.
